A sonohysterogram is a procedure that uses ultrasound to examine the inside of your uterus. It is often performed to investigate issues like abnormal bleeding or to check for fibroids.
Before the procedure, you may need to avoid sexual intercourse and come with a full bladder. During the sonohysterogram, a small speculum is inserted into the vagina, and a thin catheter is placed through the cervix into the uterus. A saline solution is then injected to expand the uterus, which allows for clearer images to be captured with the ultrasound probe.
After the procedure, you might experience mild cramping or spotting, but this usually resolves quickly.
