Metro Central Ultrasound is equipped to perform a number of abdominal ultrasound procedures to get a closer look at the tissues, and organs in the abdominal area. This exam allows your medical professional to visualize the structures in your abdomen, including the gallbladder, kidneys, liver, pancreas, spleen and abdominal aorta via ultrasound.
To prepare for your abdominal ultrasound, intake of clear liquids is fine but do not eat anything after 8:00 pm the night before (if your appointment is in the morning). If your appointment is in the afternoon, do not eat anything for the seven hours prior to your ultrasound. Continue taking any medications as normal.
Whether you are undergoing testing to examine your pancreas, kidneys, liver, gall bladder, or abdominal aorta, ultrasound is a safe and painless procedure that can offer valuable information to medical professionals.
Images of the abdominal region are created using sound waves. An ultrasound technician will use a transducer and special ultrasound gel on your skin to transmit high-frequency sound waves into your body. These waves bounce back to the transducer, and a computer then converts them into an image. These images can then be used by your doctor to make a diagnosis and recommend treatment. Doppler ultrasound technique may also be used to measure the speed and direction of blood as it travels through your vessels. This may be referred to as arterial ultrasound.
