Metro Central Ultrasound is pleased to offer safe, painless and highly accurate bladder and renal bladder ultrasound testing. Your doctor may request that you have this type of diagnostic imaging performed if there is a concern related to your bladder. A bladder ultrasound will allow a medical professional to visualize your bladder and associated structures and tissues to discover the presence of blockages, infection, cysts, or other abnormalities.
For the ultrasound to be successful, you must have a full bladder. Drink at least 1 litre (or 4 8oz glasses of fluids before your test. You may consume black tea, juice, water or other beverages. You must finish drinking all fluids one hour prior to your appointment, but do not go to the washroom as it is important that your bladder is full for proper visualization through ultrasound.
During your appointment, one of MCU’s trained technicians will perform your ultrasound using a handheld wand called a transducer, as well as a special gel to help transmit sound waves. The technician will move the transducer over your abdomen, which sends high frequency sound waves into your body and back to the transducer. A computer can then covert these sound waves into images that can be analyzed by a medical professional.
