The staff at Metro Central Ultrasound is trained to conduct breast ultrasound procedures, including bilateral breast ultrasound. This testing is typically performed to further examine any abnormalities in the breasts that have been found during a breast exam or mammogram, or to detect other potential issues that may not have been detected through other diagnostic imaging methods. Performing an ultrasound of the breast tissue will allow your doctor to further visualize any cysts or other suspicious areas within the tissues.
To prepare for your breast ultrasound, wear a comfortable, two piece outfit to make it easier for the technician to access the area to be tested. Ask your doctor, or contact Metro Central Ultrasound if you are unsure about how to properly prepare for the procedure.
Images of your breast tissue can be created using sound waves. This procedure is very safe, and completely painless. An ultrasound technician will use the handheld transducer and a water-based gel on the skin of your breasts to capture the images of your breast tissue.
A handheld probe called a transducer sends high frequency sound waves through your skin, which then bounce off of the tissues and back to the transducer. These reflected waves can then be converted into images for a medical professional to analyze.
